The formation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from the pyrolysis of cellulose over the temperature range of 300–650 °C has been investigated. Detectable amounts (microgram per gram) of 2–4 ring PAHs were observed at and above 400 °C.

Morphological changes in pyrolyzed tobacco and components of tobacco, i.e. cellulose, pectin, and lignin, at temperatures ranging from 250 to 750 °C in helium were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,

The formation of polycyclic-aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) from the pyrolysis of cellulose, pectin, and chlorogenic acid was studied. The primary product, mostly primary volatile tar, was exposed to a higher thermal severity, i.e. high temperatures and

A size reduction of the suspended particles is observed upon irradiation of colloidal metal solutions by a high-power, pulsed laser, resulting in dramatic changes in their optical properties. The mechanism of change involves rapid production of ions

This letter discusses photoacoustic shock wave generation and the origin of nonlinear sound wave generation in carbon suspensions. The Burgers equation for an inviscid fluid is solved for an exponential acoustic wave. The solution shows an increasing

We report observation of sonoluminescence following irradiation of suspensions of carbon in water with a high power, pulsed laser. The mechanism for generation of a gas bubble is chemical in origin: the heating of the carbon particles by absorption o

The formation of condensed ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from the pyrolysis of ground tobacco in helium over the temperature range of 350-600 degrees C was investigated. PAH yields in the ng/g range were detected and the maximum yields
