Understanding complex biological systems requires visualizing structures and processes deep within living organisms. We developed a compact adaptive optics module and incorporated it into two- and three-photon fluorescence microscopes, to measure and

Transduction, defined as conversion from one form of energy to another, is the essential purpose of many microelectromechanical/MEMS optical (MEMS/MOEMS devices). In this context, a transducer is a device that is actuated by energy of one form and su

We use spatially-modulated multi-photon microscopy (S-MPM) to image and track subsurface nanoparticle flow in strongly scattering porous media. This method can be used to measure local fluid velocity beyond the traditional ballistic light limit.

We describe the advantages of a nulling coronagraph instrument behind a single aperture space telescope for detection and spectroscopy of Earth-like extrasolar planets in visible light. Our concept synthesizes a nulling interferometer by shearing the

When using bronze-bonded diamond grinding wheels, no methods of intermittent or in-process dressing have been automated to the point where sharp, continuous cutting performance can be obtained over the life of the grinding wheel when grinding hard ce
