SummaryThe neotropical genusRuageaH.Karst. is revised. Fifteen species are recognised, including threeR. obovataT.D.Penn.,R. beckiiT.D.Penn. andR. parvifructaT.D.Penn. which are described as new to science. A key to the species is presented, along wi
We report the vegetation at 4050–4600 m in 1960 on the western slopes of Antisana, Ecuador, decades before burning and grazing were prohibited. Aim: To provide a baseline against which new surveys could be compared to evaluate conservation efforts.

Summary Tropical rainforest hyperdiversity is often suggested to have evolved over a long time-span (the ‘museum’ model), but there is also evidence for recent rainforest radiations. The mahoganies (Meliaceae) are a prominent plant group in lowla

The species of Guarea F.Allam. ex L. (Meliaceae) are revised. Sixty-nine species are recognised, a key to the species is provided, all names are typified and descriptions of all species are given. A phylogenetic analysis based on ITS sequence data is

This study focuses on the 17 Neotropical species described in Cedrela (Meliaceae; Cedreleae), in particular C. odorata, which has been shown in past population genetic studies to be more variable than other tree species. We sampled two sets of molecu

UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY Climatic and geological changes have been considered as major drivers of biological diversification. However, it has been generally assumed that lineages retain common environmental affinities, suggesting a limited cap

The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) was used to investigate phylogenetic relationships in Trichilia (Meliaceae). Analyses focused on the neotropical Trichilia and consisted of 112 accessions (95 neotropical Trichilia,
