S-nitroso-l-cysteine (L-CSNO) behaves as a ligand. Its soluble guanylate cyclase–independent (sGC-independent) effects are stereoselective — that is, not recapitulated by S-nitroso-d-cysteine (D-CSNO) — and are inhibited by chemical congeners.
