We developed 12-core fibers suitable for short/medium-reach applications and fabricated a 144-fiber 8-mm-outer-diameter cable using the 12-core fibers, which demonstrates the feasibility of ultra-high-core-count optical cables that can be blown into

We demonstrate the first meshed spatial-super-channel switching SDM network using field-deployed coupled-core multicore fibers with a 3 line-side, colorless, directionless ROADM. We evaluate 19 network scenarios including add&drop, bypass and groomin

High capacity transmission with a data rate over 10.66 Pb/s is demonstrated in a 13 km, 38-core-3-mode few-mode multi-core fiber. This was achieved with a single optical comb source to generate 368 × 24.5 GBaud 64- or 256-quadrature-amplitude-modula

We review and discuss the design factors and considerations on MCFs for bidirectional transmissions, including connection polarity and crosstalk requirements. We also introduce MCFs suitable for bidirectional long-haul and short-reach transmissions.

We demonstrate multi-span transmission over 65 ( $5\times 13$ ) km few-mode multi-core fiber by transmitting $368\times 24.5$ GBaud C- and L-band signals with QPSK, 16- or 64 QAM modulation. We analyze each core-combination's transmission channel cha

We show combined SDM/WDM transmission over a deployed and cabled 4-core coupled-core fibers over distances up to 4014 km for QPSK and 2768 km for 16QAM signals. The results confirm the technical viability of coupled-core fibers in the field.

We demonstrate transmission of 368-WDM-38-core-3-mode × 24.5-GBaud 64-and 256-QAM signals over 13 km. Record data-rate and spectral-efficiency of 1158.7 b/s/Hz were enabled by a low DMD 38-core-3-mode fiber with high uniformity amongst cores.

We measure the impulse response of cabled coupled- and uncoupled multi-core fibers over 100 nm in the C- and L-band. Our results provide insights to the properties of deployed SDM fibers for usage in applications such as transmission and distributed

This paper describes a six-mode 19-core fiber with 114 spatial modes, which was designed and fabricated for weakly-coupled mode-division-multiplexed (MDM) transmission over uncoupled cores. The 19 identical graded-index cores were packed on a hexagon
