In order to increase the phase shift effect due to the refractive index change of the cladding, optical switches using Nb 2 O 5 core waveguides were studied. A wavelength shifting operation was obtained by the fabricated device.

We propose a fabrication process for Nb 2 O 5 horizontal slot waveguides using a thin film deposition and selective etching technique. We have also fabricated a horizontal slot structure as a preliminary experiment.
