Intense laser–plasma interactions produce high brightness beams of gamma rays, neutrons and ions and have the potential to deliver accelerating gradients more than 1000 times higher than conventional accelerator technology, and on a tabletop scale.

An experimental investigation of low- and medium-mass ion acceleration from resistively heated thin foil targets, irradiated by picosecond laser pulses at intensities up to 5 × 1020 W cm−2, is reported. It is found that the spectral distributions

Research into nuclear isomers can lead to the development of a gamma-ray laser (GRASER), thus opening up the perspective of quantum optical studies on high energetic γ-radiation. The unique capabilities of novel, ultra-high intensity multi-tera- and

Tens of MeV proton beams have been generated by interactions of the VULCAN petawatt laser with foil targets and used to induce nuclear reactions in zinc and boron samples. The numbers of 11C, 66Ga, 67Ga, 68Ga, 61Cu, 62Zn, 63Zn, and 69mZn nuclei have

The technique of femtosecond laser mass spectrometry has been applied to benzene, nitrobenzene, toluene and nitrotoluene using pulses of 80 fs and lambda = 800 nm (10(14) - 10(16) W cm(-2)). The ultrafast laser pulses used were able to largely defeat

The interaction of thiazole and thiazolidine with a strong (∼ 2×10 16 W/cm 2 ) fs laser field has been studied at λ=790 nm by means of time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry. The observed relative abundance of the doubly charged intact parent ion
