Langasite surface acoustic wave devices can be used to implement harsh-environment wireless sensing of gas concentration and temperature. This paper reviews prior work on the development of langasite surface acoustic wave devices, followed by a repor

We report on the development of harsh-environment surface acoustic wave sensors for wired and wireless operation. Surface acoustic wave devices with an interdigitated transducer emitter and multiple reflectors were fabricated on langasite substrates.

Oxygen gas sensors have previously been reported using ZnO sensing layers deposited on langasite surface acoustic wave devices. The reported gas response exhibited aging effects that may have been due to grain growth in the ZnO or reactions with the

Surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors fabricated on high-temperature piezoelectric substrates can be applied as harsh-environment oxygen sensors. In this paper we report recent results on the stability of the response of ZnO/ langasite SAW sensors. We

High-temperature langasite SAW oxygen sensors using sputtered ZnO as a resistive gas-sensing layer were fabricated and tested. Sensitivity to oxygen gas was observed between 500°C to 700°C, with a sensitivity peak at about 625°C, consistent with t

Surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices are solid-state components in which a wave propagates along the surface of a piezoelectric material. Changes in strain or temperature cause shifts in the acoustic wave speed and/or the path length, enabling SAW dev
