We demonstrate error-free dense-wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) transmission of 40 40-Gb/s channels with 100-GHz spacing over 10 000 km dispersion-managed fiber using carrier-suppressed return-to-zero differential-phase-shift keying (CSRZ-DPS

We present a novel scheme for packet forwarding in optical packet-switched networks and we further demonstrate its good scalability through simulations. The scheme requires neither header modification nor any label distribution protocol, thus reducin

Summary form only given. A vital issue for practical implementation of optical XOR gates is the tolerance of the gate towards imperfect synchronism of the two signals participating in the XOR operation, as well as the tolerance towards variations of

A new all-active DOMO converter has been assessed experimentally at 10 Gbit/s showing almost wavelength-independent performance for signal and CW wavelengths converting the entire EDFA window. Good performance has also been demonstrated at 20 Gbit/s.

Different techniques for all-optical wavelength conversion are reviewed and the advantages and disadvantages seen from a system perspective are highlighted. All-optical wavelength conversion will play a major role in making cost-effective network nod

High-speed experiments show that the influence from the limited relaxation frequency of GC-SOAs that severely degrades the performance for NRZ signals is reduced by using RZ signals, thus resulting in a higher input power dynamic range.
