Water vapour in the atmosphere is the source of a major climate feedback mechanism and potential increases in the availability of water vapour could have important consequences for mean and extreme precipitation. Future precipitation changes further

Precipitation changes are strongly linked to the Earth’s energy budget. Here the authors show that changes in sensible heat are the dominant contributor to the present global-mean precipitation change since pre-industrial time.

While daily extreme precipitation intensities increase with global warming on average at approximately the same rate as the availability of water vapor (∼7%/°C), a debated topic is whether sub-daily extremes increase more. Modelling at convection-

2-O-β-d-Glucopyranosyl l-ascorbic acid (AA-2βG) is a stable, bioavailable vitamin C (AA) derivative. We report the distribution and seasonal variation of AA-2βG in apples and its occurrence in other domesticated crops and in wild harvested Ma̅ori

European air quality legislation has reduced emissions of air pollutants across Europe since the 1970s, affecting air quality, human health and regional climate. We used a coupled composition-climate model to simulate the impacts of European air qual

Non-targeted LC-MS metabolomics on fruit of three wild and domesticated apple species (Malus sylvestris, M. sieversii and M. domestica) showed that two crab apple (M. sylvestris) accessions were distinguished by high concentrations of an ascorbic aci

Cytotoxic amides have been isolated from the fruits of the endemic New Zealand medicinal plant kawakawa, Macropiper excelsum (Piperaceae). The main amide was piperchabamide A and this is the first report of this rare compound outside the genus Piper.

The genera Bulbine, Bulbinella and Kniphofia produce phenylanthraquinones and are mostly found in southern Africa, although a disjunct group of Bulbinella species endemic to New Zealand also contain phenylanthraquinones as reported herein. The sub-An

The PPM1D gene is aberrantly amplified in a range of common cancers and encodes a protein phosphatase that is a potential therapeutic target. However, the issue of whether inhibition of PPM1D in human tumour cells that overexpress this protein compro
