The complexes cis-[MCI(CO)2(n-OPhVPy)] (M = Rh, lr; n-OPhVPy = trans-4-alkyloxy-4′-stilbazole) are mesomorphic showing nematic and smectic A phases at temperatures below 140°C.

The mesomorphic NiII, PdII and ZnII dithiobenzoate complexes [M(n-odtb)2](M = Ni, Pd) and [Zn2(n-odtb)4] are highly dichroic and show high order parameters when dissolved in nematic hosts.
