We present 10Gb/s silicon Mach-Zehnder modulators fabricated on a bulk silicon wafer. 10Gb/s data transmission with extinction ratio of >9dB at de-emphasis level of 12dB is successfully demonstrated.

We present a new bulk-Si optical platform for the optical interfaces toward DRAM integration with localized SOI structure and SPE. The demonstration shows that the waveguide and coupling loss are −0.61dB/mm and −2.6dB, respectively.

We report a nano-sized silicon waveguide by forming partial silicon-on-insulator structure with SPE on bulk silicon substrate. The propagation loss is as low as 6.1 dB/cm, which is close to that of silicon-on-insulator based waveguide.

A unique C-aperture metallic waveguide with a 90° bend and tapered region having applications to HAMR is presented. The structure has a small footprint and yet shows high throughput and a small spot size.
