The Hamiltonian for two-dimensional long waves over a slowly varying depth is derived. The vertical variation of the velocity field is obtained by using a perturbation method in terms of velocity potential. Employing the canonical theorem, the conven

[1] A new two-dimensional finite difference numerical scheme is developed to simulate the propagation of distant tsunamis over slowly varying topography with improved dispersion effect of waves. The new scheme solves the shallow water equations on a

The forward and the backward scattered wave fields from an energy dissipation region are investigated. Analytical solutions are obtained for two‐dimensional problems. Results can be used in estimating the reflection coefficient for a crib‐type br

Based on Boussinesq equations and parabolic approximation, the forward diffraction of cnoidal waves by a straight breakwater is studied numerically. The formation of stem waves along the breakwater and the relation between the stem waves and the inci

The nonlinear Schrodinger equation derived by Liu and Tsay (1984) is used to investigate the forward scattering of the second-order Stokes waves by a depth discontinuity. It is shown that, due to nonlinearity, stem waves develop along a line caustic.

Interactions between waves and currents are common and important phenomena in the coastal zone. Coastal currents, such as longshore currents, rip currents, and river flows, can significantly change wave heights and directions of wave propagation. Con
