Abstract We present new results on the conversion of pure, undoped synthetic ferrihydrite, wet‐annealed at pH 6.56 and 90°C without stabilizing ligands, to nanophase goethite, hematite, and an intermediate magnetic phase, nanophase maghemite. Our

Las mediciones preliminares de propiedades magnéticas en muestras de un núcleo de 8.5 m. de longitud del lago Granfather (suroeste de Alaska), indican que la magnetización remanente de estos sedimentos reside en magnetita con comportamiento de mul

Preliminary rock magnetic measurements on a 8.5 m long sediment core from Grandfather Lake, southwest Alaska, indicate that the remanence in these sediments is carried by large multi-domain magnetite grains. This suggests a detrital magnetic signal.

This study investigates the magnetic mineralogy of palaeosol S5 from Xifeng (XF), Linyou (LY) and Baoji (BJ) sections with increasing annual precipitation from north to the south on the Chinese Loess Plateau. Palaeosol S5 samples from these three loc

Previous studies show that the Quaternary loess sequence and the late Miocene-Pliocene red clay sequence on the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) share similar magnetic properties despite their being deposited under different climate conditions. To solve t

Droughts are recurrent features in sedimentary records at the prairie–forest ecotone of northern U.S.A. It is therefore important to understand the duration of such events, as well as their severity and consequences beyond the century-scale instrum

Ferrihydrites were prepared by coprecipitation (COP) or adsorption (ADS) of arsenate, and the products were characterized using solid-state methods. In addition, the kinetics of reductive dissolution by hydroquinone of these well-characterized materi

Detailed rock-magnetic and bacterial community analyses have been conducted on a 2.2 m-long soil profile developed over loess in Nebraska. Results show magnetic enhancement in the A-horizon of the soil profile, in part due to increased concentration
