We report the first demonstration of a Ho: YAG crystal fiber waveguide (CFW) laser operating at 2.09 µm. The CFW structure was produced by adhesive free bonding of holmium doped yttrium aluminum garnet core to an undoped yttrium aluminum garnet clad

Beta-Barium Borate (β-BBO) crystal is commonly used in nonlinear frequency conversion from visible to deep ultraviolet (DUV). However, in a single crystal BBO, its large spatial walk-off effect will reduce spatial overlap of ordinary and extraordina

We report on laser performance of ceramic Yb:YAG and single crystal Tm:YAG double-clad crystalline fiber waveguide (CFW) lasers towards the goal of demonstrating the design and manufacturing strategy of scaling to high output power. The laser compone

We describe the application of the adhesive-free bonding (AFB) technique to form crystalline Yb:YAG gain media slabs. We demonstrate that the AFB technique is a viable alternative for producing large aperture slabs for high-energy lasers.

We report on laser performance and modeling of Yb:YAG and Tm:YAG double-clad crystalline fiber waveguide for high power applications, with 53.6% slope efficiency and 27.5-W output for Yb:YAG, and 31.6% and 46.7-W for Tm:YAG.

Power scaling analysis based on the model by Dawson et al. [1,2] for circular core fibers has been applied to estimating power scaling of crystalline fiber waveguides (CFWs) with RE 3+ doped single crystalline or ceramic YAG (RE=rare earth: Yb, Er, T

Single-clad and double-clad Yb:YAG crystalline fiber waveguides (CFWs) have been prepared with Adhesive-Free Bonding (AFB®) technology. By using a fiber coupled laser diode as pump source, a single-mode laser with near diffraction limited beam quali

A new solution for building high power, solid state lasers for space flight is to fabricate the whole laser resonator in a single (monolithic) structure or alternatively to build a contiguous diffusion bonded or welded structure. Monolithic lasers pr

The bonds established with Onyx’s adhesive-free bonding (AFB) technique between optical materials, such as trivalent rare-earth ion doped YAG, un-doped YAG, or sapphire, rely on Van der Waals forces. The AFB technique is being applied to fabricate

We report on the application of the adhesive-free bonding (AFB) technique to form Yb-doped crystalline yttrium aluminum garnet (Yb:YAG) gain media slabs. We performed experiments to characterise mechanical strength, optical quality and laser-induced
