We present initial remote sensing and field data that suggest active distributed right-lateral faulting at the northern edge of the Quito-Latacunga tectonic block in northern Ecuador and southern Colombia. In this region, oblique subduction of the Na

Fault displacement can be a source of hazard for critical infrastructures located in the nearby of a capable fault. This issue is usually addressed with zonation and avoidance strategies, but sometime the facilities have not this option. An alternati

The Western Alps current tectonics is characterized by seismically active radial extension in the core of the belt, combined with transcurrent to transpressive tectonics in its external zone and foreland associated with a moderate seismicity. We focu

The Italian Apennines is a slowly deforming area, despite not properly being an intraplate region. This is particularly true for the Northern Apennines, where~1ka) recurrence intervals. This makes earthquake geology a fundamental tool for characteriz

When an earthquake in southern France caused the ground to rupture—a phenomenon not known during the last 25 years in the region—the earthquake science community worked together to determine the implications for hazard assessment. Now we must mai

The 2019 Le Teil earthquake in southern France reactivated an existing fault and ruptured the surface, according to field, seismic and InSAR observations. The incredibly shallow hypocenter can explain the effects of the moderate Mw 4.9 event.
