Nonlinear distortion has always been a challenge for optical communication due to the nonlinear transfer characteristics of the fiber itself. The next frontier for optical communication is a second type of nonlinearities, which results from optical a

We use a neural network trained jointly by multi-task learning on datasets acquired at multiple wavelengths to mitigate the impact of chromatic dispersion in 4×200Gb/s CWDM4 PAM4 transmission. By sharing a single set of weights among all involved wa

Probabilistic constellation shaping has been used in long-haul optically amplified coherent systems for its capability to approach the Shannon limit and realize fine rate granularity. The availability of high-bandwidth optical-electronic components a

A linear feed-forward equalizer is implemented by a potentially low-power spiking neural network. For a 100Gb/s PAM-4 IM/DD optical 2km transmission, no performance penalty compared to a digital implementation is observed.

Soft information quality of different DSP schemes followed by hybrid soft/hard decision FEC is investigated. We demonstrate in simulations and experiments that BCJR achieves a significant gain over DFE by providing better soft information.

Analog in-memory computing reduces power consumption sacrificing computational accuracy. We implement multiplication-accumulation in resistive RAM accounting for non-idealities (variations, quantization, ADC noise). The floating-point performance is

We report a record of 72.64 Tb/s WDM transmission at 12.29 bits/s/Hz over 100 km G.654D fiber. Super C-band EDFAs with 6 THz gain spectrum are used to transmit 43 130 GBaud DP-PCS256QAM channels.

Concatenated forward error correction is studied using an outer KP4 Reed-Solomon code with hard-decision decoding and inner single parity check (SPC) codes with Chase/Wagner soft-decision decoding. Analytical expressions are derived for the end-to-en

We experimentally compared 128 and 256-GSa/s DACs using partial response signaling. Transmission of 310-GBd OOK is demonstrated with a single 128 GSa/s DAC for up to 5-km without optical amplification (net 268.84Gb/s, AIR ≈ 300Gb/s).
