The Southern platyfish Xiphophorus maculatus is one of the most popular ornamental fish used widely as a premier model system in understanding the genetic basis of color pattern polymorphism. Coloration in X. maculatus is found to be linked with mela

In this study, differing adult sex ratios of the Southern platyfish, Xiphophorus maculatus were examined for fish larval number and the survival of fish fry. Sixty adult individuals of X. maculatus were randomly divided into 5 equal groups with vario

When healthy, wild-type individuals from closely related species are crossed to each other, the resulting hybrids often display fundamental problems in development. Problems such as hybrid sterility or hybrid inviability can sometimes act as barriers

The fish genus Xiphophorus consists of 26 species distributed along the eastern slopes of mountain ranges extending from northern Mexico to Belize and Nicaragua. We analyzed light-dependent repair of UV-induced DNA damage in at least two species from

There is considerable laboratory-based evidence that social learning plays a role in the behaviour of many animals, including fish. However, a weakness of such studies in fish, is that in virtually all to date, the behaviour showed could be learned a
