A recent DNA-based assessment of the psyllid fauna of New Zealand recorded high genetic variation between populations that were expected to belong to the same psyllid species. Among these, a number of populations of the kōwhai psyllid Psylla apicali

In a three-hour bioassay, we tested the palatability and feeding preferences of Uresiphita maorialis (kōwhai moth) for Sophora tetraptera, Sophora microphylla and Sophora prostrata. Palatability tests showed no differences among the Sophora species.

We analysed nine microsatellite markers for 626 individuals representing the geographic range of eight closely related endemic New Zealand species of Sophora. Structure analysis identified the optimal K value as seven, with samples identified as Soph

The karyotype of Sophora tetraptera (Fabaceae (Leguminosae), subfam. Papilionoideae) is reported for the first time. The chromosome number, 2n = 18, coincides with former reports and is the most common number for the genus. The chromosomes are small

Sophora is a woody genus of the Leguminosae in which an unusual order and process of floral organ development is often observed. The SEM results for Sophora tetraptera revealed precocious initiation of the carpel, delayed development of petals, and f

Alkaloid contents of leaf and seed samples of eight species of Sophora native to New Zealand, plus Sophora cassioides from Chile are reported. Fifty-six leaf and forty-two seed samples were analysed for alkaloid content by proton nuclear magnetic res

Four new isoflavanones, tetrapterols F–I, were isolated from roots of Sophora tetraptera in addition to seven known flavonoids, lupinifolin, 8-O-methylretusin, 5,7,4′-trihydroxy-6,3′-di(γ,γ-dimethylallyl)isoflavone, (−)-maackiain, sophoraca

Morphometric parameters that have been used previously to define divaricates are not useful for the genus Sophora. In measurements of forest‐grown material, only node‐angles effectively distinguished between the arborescent S. tetraptera and the

Possible relationships between cytokinins and juvenile form of Sophora species were investigated. Exogenous applications of 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BAP) to seedling S. microphylla resulted in a more divaricating appearance. Treated plants had more out
