The availability of high-density single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) panels for humans and, recently, for several livestock species has given a great impulse to genome-wide association studies towards the identification of genes associated with com

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) are traditionally carried out by using the single marker regression model that, if a small number of individuals is involved, often lead to very few associations. The Bayesian methods, such as BayesR, have obtai

Genetic diversity of two closely related sheep breeds, the Sarda and the Sardinian Ancestral Black, was investigated using different statistical approaches. A total of 210 sheep (94 Sarda and 116 Sardinian Ancestral Black) were genotyped using Infini

In the present study, a sample of 88 animals belonging to four local (Modicana, Sarda, Sardo-Bruna and Sardo-Modicana) and one cosmopolitan (Italian Brown Swiss) cattle breeds were genotyped with a medium density SNP beadchip and compared to investig

Background Cattle include a large number of breeds that are characterized by marked phenotypic differences and thus constitute a valuable model to study genome evolution in response to processes such as selection and domestication. Detection of “si

Summary Selection is the major force affecting local levels of genetic variation in species. The availability of dense marker maps offers new opportunities for a detailed understanding of genetic diversity distribution across the animal genome. Over
