Readers’ eye movements used as part of the training signal have been shown to improve performance in a wide range of Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks. Previous work uses gaze data either at the type level or at the token level and mostly fro

We present a tool that allows reading teachers to record and replay students' voice and gaze behavior during reading. The tool replays scanpaths to reading professionals without prior gaze data experience. On the basis of test experiences with 147 st

We present our submission to the 2018 Duolingo Shared Task on Second LanguageAcquisition Modeling (SLAM). We focus on evaluating a range of features for the task, including user-derived measures, while examining how far we can get with a simple linea

We present the first work on predicting reading mistakes in children with reading difficulties based on eye-tracking data from real-world reading teaching. Our approach employs several linguistic and gaze-based features to inform an ensemble of diffe

We show how eye-tracking corpora can be used to improve sentence compression models, presenting a novel multi-task learning algorithm based on multi-layer LSTMs. We obtain performance competitive with or better than state-of-the-art approaches.

We show that metrics derived from recording gaze while reading, are better proxies for machine translation quality than automated metrics. With reliable eyetracking technologies becoming available for home computers and mobile devices, such metrics a

In this shared task paper for SemEval2014 Task 8, we show that most semantic structures can be approximated by trees through a series of almost bijective graph transformations. We transform input graphs, apply off-the-shelf methods from syntactic par

Onsets are generally considered to play an important role in the determination of syllable identity by human listeners. We measured P1-N1-P2 event-related potentials (ERP) from subjects (n = 11) in response to the syllable [sdʁə]. The complex onset
