The measurements of profiles of wind speed and air temperature in the atmospheric surface layer above bare ice surface in the circumference of the Yamato Mountains were carried out under neutral and unstable conditions in December, 1973. The results

In 1980,the present authors in the 21st Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition carried out glacial-meteorological observations at Mizuho Station and Syowa Station as the second year programme of the Japanese POLEX-South. Items of observation at Mizuh

The present study describes the optical technique that has been developed to measure the variation of the spatial density of blowing snow particles suspended in air. The light source (the emitter) used was an incandescent lamp (12V, 20 W), and a diam

We developed a method that predicts avalanche paths deviating from a stream on complex surfaces. This method is based on Nohguchi’s center-of-mass model with simple dynamic resistance. Avalanche paths from many starting points were calculated at tw

Snowdrifting processes and the wind-velocity profiles around a collector and a blower snow fence were investigated in a cold wind tunnel. The purpose was to ascertain the effect of wind direction on drift control by snow fences. Three different cases
