The oxidation state, coordination and local environment of sulphur in alkali silicate (R2O-SiO2; R= Na,\ud Li) and alkali-alkaline earth silicate (Na2O-MO-SiO2; M= Ca, Ba) glasses have been investigated using\ud neutron diffraction and Raman spectros

Float glass-type SiO2-Na2O-CaO glasses with 0 – 10 mol% Sb2O3 were melted and\ud their compositional, structural, thermal and optical properties characterised. All glasses\ud were X-ray amorphous and increasing Sb2O3 content progressively decreased

Reproducible preparation of lithium tetraborate fused beads for XRF analysis of glass and mineral samples is of paramount importance for analytical repeatability. However, as with all glass melting processes, losses due to volatilisation must be take

Glasses that contain carbon are of geological interest, and the form of that carbon can be probed by Magic-Angle Spinning Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (MAS-NMR) spectroscopy. Previous studies of the Na2O-SiO2 glass system could only reach 56 mol% Na2O.

Glasses with nominal molar composition 20B2O3 – (80-x)Bi2O3 – xFe2O3 (where x = 0–40) were successfully prepared by melt-quenching. These glasses were characterised by multiple techniques including density, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-Ray fluore

The capacity of simulated high-level radioactive waste borosilicate glasses to incorporate sulfate has been studied as a function of glass composition. Combined Raman, 57Fe Mossbauer and literature evidence supports the attribution of coordination nu
