Massive colliding-wind binaries that host a Wolf-Rayet (WR) star present a potentially important source of dust and chemical enrichment in the interstellar medium (ISM). However, the chemical composition and survival of dust formed from such systems

What drives the small total solar irradiance (TSI) changes of ∼50–100 parts per million (compared with >1000 ppm solar-cycle amplitudes) during a deep solar minimum, i.e., in the practical absence of detectable sunspots and long-lasting active re

With the help of numerical simulation we calculated the reflection of light beams with different angular spectra from a chirped dielectric structure and demonstrate that the general lateral shifts of reflected beams with the narrow spectral width dep

We describe the new, version 3.0 NASA Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) standard nitrogen dioxide (NO2) products (SPv3). The products and documentation are publicly available from the NASA Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (

A combined mid-IR spectrum of five colliding-wind, massive, dust-producing Population I Wolf-Rayet (WR) binaries shows a wealth of absorption and emission details coming from the circumstellar dust envelopes, as well as from the interstellar medium.

A wealth of recent observations confirms that the fast, dense winds of OB and Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars are highly structured, with the structures resulting from the inherently unstable nature of a radiatively-driven wind, as well as being triggered from

We analyse two ASCA observations of the highly eccentric O9III + B1III binary Iota Orionis obtained at periastron and apastron. Based on the assumption of a strong colliding winds shock between the stellar components, we expected to see significant v

We present the most intensive, high-quality spectroscopic monitoring of optical Wolf-Rayet emission lines ever obtained. The Wolf-Rayet star HD 192103 (\WR 135; subtype WC8) was observed in the 5650¨5840 regime alternately from both the William Hers

Medium band (H' and K') images of the episodic dust-forming, long-period (~13 yr) WC7 + OB binary WR 137 were obtained with the Near-Infrared Camera and Multiobject Spectrometer 2 camera of the Hubble Space Telescope during periastron passage in 1997

For binaries with well-known orbital parameters we describe methods to restrict some characteristics of the WR star in the binary, such as Te and RWR(τ ≃ 1). The presence of a hot, luminous companion helps to address the question of spherical symm
