The roles of site and size of Pd NPs in catalytic CO oxidation are studied by in situ SFG spectroscopy. The catalytic reactivity of CO is influenced by both the morphology (edge/facet) of NPs and the lattice mismatch induced Pd–Pd distance change.

The adsorption of CO on Pd nanoparticles (NP) supported on MgO ultrathin films is studied by sum frequency generation (SFG) vibrational spectroscopy at room temperature as a function of CO coverage for NP lateral sizes ranging from 3 to 6 nm. While t

Obtaining insight into the type of surface sites involved in a reaction is essential to understand catalytic mechanisms at the atomic level and a key for understanding selectivity in surface-catalyzed reactions. Here we use ultrafast broad-band vibra

Confinement of hot electrons in metal nanoparticles (NPs) is expected to lead to increased reactivity in heterogeneous catalysis. NP size as well as support may influence molecule-NP coupling. Here, we use ultrafast nonlinear vibrational spectroscopy

Sum frequency generation (SFG) and low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) have been used to revisit CO adsorption on Pd(100) from very low coverages up to saturation at 300 K. Below 0.5 ML, variations of SFG frequency and intensity with coverage are

Femtosecond visible pulses at 800 nm are observed to induce permanent spectral changes in the CO internal stretch region of CO/Pt(1 1 1) at 300 K, using sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy. By contrast, IR femtosecond, and visible picos

The laser induced desorption of CO from Pd(111) at 308 nm and 532 nm is compared to the thermal desorption by recording FTIR and SFG spectra of the CO molecules remaining on the surface. There is no photodesorption from a fully ordered CO layer. Howe

Sum frequency generation and IR absorption spectra of CO adsorbed on Pd(111) are reported. Adsorption of CO in the surface temperature range 150–230 K results in the appearance of extra peaks in the spectral range of the CO stretching vibration. Th
