Abstract A common 400 V dc bus for industrial motor drives advantageously allows the use of high‐performance 600 V power semiconductor technology in the inverter drive converter stages and to lower the rated power of the supplying rectifier system.

This paper presents a novel approach to mitigate the inrush current by using Point On Wave (POW) switching technique. The proposed technique is used to limit the inrush current while energizing the transformer. An algorithm is developed using EMTP/PS
