We investigated and showed that using the U-band instead of the complete S-band is a more effective solution for increasing capacity while still reducing energy consumption and cost in transparent and translucent network designs.

This work shows that exploiting more bands in a transparent network design is a more effective and power-efficient way to increase the network capacity instead of relying on signal regenerators to increase spectral efficiency.
