We have observed that the motion of a vibrating-wire resonator in superfluid $^{3}\mathit{B}$ at temperatures below ${\mathrm{T}}_{\mathrm{c}}$/8 is associated with a sharp critical velocity, ${\mathrm{v}}_{\mathrm{c}}$, above which very high dissipa

We report the first direct measurements of the thermal boundary conductance between superfluid $^{3}\mathrm{He}$-$B$ and sintered silver in the temperature region well below ${T}_{c}$. The conductance is highly temperature dependent, being dominated

An experimental procedure is described for the characterization of the response of very small vibrating wires to liquid3He at temperatures down to 120 µK. The relative scales of the mean free path in the liquid and the radius of the wire play a sign

A filamentary wire resonator will generate quasi-particles in 3He-B when driven beyond a critical velocity. By using such a resonator as a source of quasi-particles and a second wire resonator as a quasi-particle detector, we have been able to emit a

We describe the philosophy and practice of a new method of nuclear cooling in which the copper refrigerant is immersed directly in the3He sample to be cooled using a guard cell configuration. The method has been used to cool liquid3He to ∼120 µK.
