We review recent advances on temporal localized structures in optical resonators. Because they can be individually addressed, localized structures may be used as elementary information bits which can be stored in an optical cavity. We disclose the co

We present a complete experimental evaluation of the effective parameters necessary to describe the dynamical behavior of an air-post vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers, on the basis of theoretical equations which are also derived in this paper.

We report on bistability in VCSEL involving two linear and orthogonal polarizations. The domain of coexistence is extended to the full current range of the device. We demonstrate control of the polarization state by perturbing optically the VCSEL. We

Cavity solitons represent a class of dissipative solitons which are generated inside an optical resonator. They have attracted considerable interest in the recent years due to their possible application to optical information processing. First of all

A complete and deep description of the characteristics of the cavity solitons (CSs) in semiconductor cavities is provided. Generation of a number of CSs in the transverse section is demonstrated, and a careful analysis of the switching process of CSs

We report on experimental evidence of cavity solitons in driven diode lasers below threshold. We show for the first time in semiconductors that one-peaked structures, generated in arbitrary locations, are spatially uncorrelated, as required for solit
