We study the excitations that emerge upon doping the translationally invariant correlated insulating states in magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene at various integer filling factors ν. We identify parameter regimes where these are excitations assoc

We study magic angle graphene in the presence of both strain and particle-hole symmetry breaking due to nonlocal interlayer tunneling. We perform a self-consistent Hartree-Fock study that incorporates these effects alongside realistic interaction and

Nodal semimetals are a unique platform to explore topological signatures of the unusual band structure that can manifest by accumulating a nontrivial phase in quantum oscillations. Here we report a study of the de Haas–van Alphen oscillations of th

We study the classical dimer model on rhombic Penrose tilings, whose edges and vertices may be identified as those of a bipartite graph. We find that Penrose tilings do not admit perfect matchings (defect-free dimer coverings). Instead, their maximum

We construct models hosting classical fractal spin liquids on two realistic three-dimensional (3D) lattices of corner-sharing triangles: trillium and hyperhyperkagome (HHK). Both models involve the same form of three-spin Ising interactions on triang

We study classical dimers on two-dimensional quasiperiodic Ammann-Beenker (AB) tilings. Despite the lack of periodicity we prove that each infinite tiling admits 'perfect matchings' in which every vertex is touched by one dimer. We introduce an auxil

Significance The quasi-1D magnetic insulator CoNb2O6 hosts a paradigmatic example of a quantum phase transition in the 1D Ising universality class. While the physics near the transition is largely insensitive to the microscopic Hamiltonian, several f
We consider fractional quantum Hall states in systems where two flat Chern number $C=\pm 1$ bands are labeled by an approximately conserved 'valley' index and interchanged by time reversal symmetry. At filling factor $\nu=1$ this setting admits an un

Surface Fermi arcs are the most prominent manifestation of the topological nature of Weyl semimetals. In the presence of a static magnetic field oriented perpendicular to the sample surface, their existence leads to unique intersurface cyclotron orbi

We study the dynamical melting of “hot” one-dimensional many-body localized systems. As disorder is weakened below a critical value, these nonthermal quantum glasses melt via a continuous dynamical phase transition into classical thermal liquids.
