The PHENIX Muon Arms detect muons at rapidities of | y |=(1.2–2.4) with full azimuthal acceptance. Each muon arm must track and identify muons and provide good rejection of pions and kaons (∼10 −3 ). In order to accomplish this we employ a radi

The Columbia Arabic Treebank (CATiB) is a database of syntactic analyses of Arabic sentences. CATiB contrasts with previous approaches to Arabic treebanking in its emphasis on speed with some constraints on linguistic richness. Two basic ideas inspir

We investigate the tasks of general morphological tagging, diacritization, and lemmatization for Arabic. We show that for all tasks we consider, both modeling the lexeme explicitly, and retuning the weights of individual classifiers for the specific

We demonstrate for the first time that thin, single-crystal films fabricated by ion- exfoliation of a bulk PPLN crystal will reduce tuning voltage for electro-optically tunable harmonic generation in PPLN devices.

We demonstrate the polarization-dependant, local-plasmon-enhanced transmission characteristics of light incident on a periodic array of customized, nanoscale cruciform patterns. These characteristics are simulated; the patterns are fabricated on Au a

Optical field enhancement (~70times) for light incident on a nanoscopic Au probe tip suspended over a Au substrate is investigated numerically. The spectral response and effect of system geometry are examined using 3D-FDTD.

We demonstrate a 10x reduction in the driving voltage of an electrooptical scanner in LiNbO/sub 3/. The scanner is made by exfoliating a 10/spl mu/m thick crystal slab off the surface of a bulk device using crystal-ion-slicing.

We report on the design, fabrication, and testing of ferroelectric patterned materials in the guided-wave and polaritonic regime. We demonstrate their functionality and exploit polariton confinement for amplification and coherent control using tempor

We demonstrate that extremely thin, i.e., /spl sim/2-3/spl mu/m, single-crystal films of LiNbO/sub 3/ can be formed on a wafer using patterned ion-implantation followed by chemical etching. Control of the membrane thickness and its waveguiding proper
