In a previous work, the authors have demonstrated the formation of localized waves in nematic liquid crystals driven by an electric field. Here they demonstrate the realization of solitary waves of (3+2)D type which can be steered along longitudinal

Solitary waves which maintain their shape have many fascinating physical and mathematical properties. Here the authors observe waves trapped along three spatial dimensions in nematic liquid crystals due to an electric field and show that these direct

The manipulation of particles by a uniform electric field, known as electrophoresis, is used in a wide array of applications. Of special interest is electrophoresis driven by an alternating current (ac) as it eliminates electrode blocking and produce

Nuclear targeted delivery has great potential in improving the efficiency of non-viral carrier mediated genome editing. However, direct and efficient delivery of CRISPR/Cas9 plasmid into the nucleus remains a challenge. In this study, a nuclear targe

The paper demonstrates an AC electrophoresis of symmetric homogeneous spheres placed in a liquid crystal that is driven by an electric field-induced solitary wave of molecular orientation around the sphere. In this soliton-driven AC electrophoresis,

Electric field-induced collective reorientation of nematic molecules is of importance for fundamental science and practical applications. This reorientation is either homogeneous over the area of electrodes, as in displays, or periodically modulated,

Electro-optical effects in nematic liquid crystals are extensively used in display technology. A major drawback that has hindered further application is the relatively slow time of the optical response to an applied field, on the order of millisecond

Production of stable multidimensional solitary waves is a grand challenge in modern science. Steering their propagation is an even harder problem. In this work we demonstrate three-dimensional solitary waves in a nematic, trajectories of which can be

We present polarization-independent optical shutters with a sub-millisecond switching time. The approach utilizes dual-frequency nematics doped with a dichroic dye. Two nematic cells with orthogonal alignment are driven simultaneously by a low-freque
