A magnitude 3.3 earthquake occured in the Central Virginia seismic zone at two seconds after noon (EDST) on September 5, 1972. Residents of Richmond, Powhatan and Goochland Counties were alarmed but no damage was reported. A felt area of 6000 sq. km.
