Lignans are bioactive compounds that are especially abundant in the Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) knotwood. By combining a variety of chromatographic, spectroscopic and imaging techniques, we were able to quantify, qualify and localise the ea

Tracheid length and width patterns from pith to bark at a height of 0.6 m in uneven-aged Norway spruce (Picea abies L. (H.) Karst) trees were addressed. The identification of the main factors and a comparison with even-aged stands were also pursued.

Tree biomass models are increasingly needed for the estimation of carbon storage and for testing and parameterizing process-based growth models, but most biomass models have been estimated using da...

This study focused on wood density and annual ring width in Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) grown in uneven-aged stands (UAS). In total, 96 trees were harvested from five UAS that had been managed by single-tree selection for decades. A data

We studied the effect of seed transfers on survival, yield and stem defects of silver birch (Betula pendula Roth) of North European origin in five parallel provenance trials in Finland. The trials were located at Loppi (60°39′N) in southern Finlan

The study was performed as part of a nutrient optimization experiment at Asa in southern Sweden. The experiment was established 1987, in a Norway spruce ( Picea abies (L.) Karst.) stand planted in 1975. In the nutrient optimization treatment (IL), al

Models were developed for predicting the proportion of latewood and average tracheid length in earlywood, as well as wood density, tracheid width, and ratio of cell wall thickness to tracheid diameter in early and latewood, in individual annual rings
