Abstract: Dorsal and anal fin deformities in the blue tang Acanthurus coeruleus are reported for the first time from northeastern Brazil, based on observations during research dives at an artificial reef. Possible causative factors are discussed.

We report a choking event involving a Bocon toadfish Amphichthys cryptocentrus and a Madamango sea catfish Cathorops spixii. The sea catfish was lodged into the oral cavity of the toadfish and possibly caused the predator’s death by asphyxiation. T
