Remains of elasmosaurid plesiosaurs are exceedingly rare in the type-Maastrichtian strata (Late Cretaceous, southeast Netherlands and northeast Belgium), in stark contrast to relatively common skeletal remains of mosasaurs. Here, we present an analys

Stable isotope analysis of marine skeletal carbonates is an important tool for palaeoenvironmental reconstructions. However, in Mesozoic sedimentary sequences, diagenetic alteration often overprints the original skeletal carbonate isotope values. Yet

The carbon (δ 13 C) and oxygen (δ 18 O) isotope compositions of fossilized animal tissues have become important proxies of paleodiet and paleoenvironment, but such stable isotope studies have not yet been extensively applied to the fossil assemblag
