The hydrothermal reaction of CoCl2·6H2O, NaVO3, 1,3-di-4-pyridylpropane (bpypr) and water in the mole ratio 1.0:1.1:2.0:1500 at 120 °C for 48 h yields [ Co 3 ( bpypr ) 4 ( H 2 O ) 4 V 6 O 18 ]·2 H 2 O ( 1 ·2 H 2 O ) as red crystals in 45% yield.
