Quinolinium salts, Q+-CH2-CO2Me Br− and Q+-CH2-CONMe2 Br− (where Q = quinoline), were prepared from quinolines. Deprotonation of these salts with triethylamine promoted the reaction of the resulting quinolinium ylides (formally azomethine ylides)
