This paper presents projections of global methane emissions from coal mining under different coal extraction scenarios and with increasing mining depth through 2100. The paper proposes an updated methodology for calculating fugitive emissions from co

Low energy prices coupled with a lack of carbon financing options have led to shuttering many emission-reducing projects located around the world at gassy coal mines. In late 2013, the Global Methane Initiative (GMI) Coal Subcommittee organized a pan

The chapter provides an overview of coal bed methane production in all countries (except USA; covered in Chapter 17 ) around the world where there is a viable coal deposit. Coal deposits are shown in a map and coal bed methane reserves are estimated.

Underground coal mines worldwide liberate an estimated 29–41×109 m3 of methane annually, of which less than 2.3×109 m3 are used as fuel. The remaining methane is emitted to the atmosphere, representing the loss of a valuable energy resource. Meth
