A periodic metagate is designed on top of a boron nitride-graphene heterostructure to modulate the local carrier density distribution on the monolayer graphene. This causes the bandgaps of graphene surface plasmon polaritons to emerge because of eith
We demonstrate that a spin degree of freedom can introduce additional texture to higher order topological insulators (HOTIs), manifesting itself in novel topological invariants, phases, and phase transitions. Spin-polarized mid-gap corner states of v

Four spinful photonic C6 photonic higher-order topological insulators are investigated. We show that two are robust to spin-orbit coupling while two are not. We derive a new invariant to predict this effect on corner states.

Ultrastrong confinement, long lifetime, and gate-tunability of graphene plasmon polaritons (GPPs) motivate wide-ranging efforts to develop GPP-based active nanophotonic platforms. Incorporation of topological phenomena into such platforms will ensure

We present a platform that implements the topological Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model using long range surface plasmon polaritons on a gold strip at telecomm wavelength. We provide a theoretical model and simulations showing a topological edge mode.
We introduce an electromagnetic metamaterial - a spin-valley photonic topological insulator (SV-PTI) - that emulates a wide class of theoretically predicted gapped two-dimensional materials with antiferromagnetic order coupled to the valley degree of

While 3D photonic crystals possessing a line of touching propagation bands have been known for some time, no similar 2D structure with full confinement in the vertical direction have been proposed. Our design takes advantage of accidental degeneracy
