The metal ion complexing properties of the ligand HQC (8-hydroxyquinoline-2-carboxylic acid) are reported. The structures of [Zn(HQCH) 2 ]·3H 2 O (1) and [Cd(HQCH) 2 ]·3H 2 O (2) were determined (HQCH = HQC with phenol protonated). Both 1 and 2 are
