There is growing evidence that smaller vessels not required to broadcast data via the Automatic Identification System (AIS) contribute significant noise to urbanized coastal areas. The Marine Monitor (M2), a vessel tracking system that integrates AIS

Vocalizations of blue whales were recorded with a cabled hydrophone array at Pioneer Seamount, 50 miles off the California coast. Most calls occurred in repeated sequences of two-call pairs (A, then B). The B call is a frequency-modulated tone highly

Using a sequence of stepped bias currents in the nanosecond range, we have studied the destruction of superconductivity in c-axis textured YBa2Cu3O7 strips of various thickness and structure (single or multi-layers). Sufficiently far from Tc, vortex

The purpose of this report was to evaluate the magnitude of the error that would be introduced if only a lateral (LAT) portal image, as opposed to a pair of orthogonal images, was used to verify and correct daily setup errors and organ motion in exte

We have measured the characteristics of aluminum tunnel junctions during and immediately after the formation of the junction. This has permitted us to observe changes in the oxide barrier, in vacuum and in air. By observing the barrier resistance dur

The authors have fabricated an array of series-connected superconducting aluminum tunnel junctions on the surface of a large sapphire crystal, as a prototype of a detector for massive, weakly interacting elementary particles. Such particles might con

A high intensity experiment was performed to search for free quarks at BNL and CERN using ultra-relativisitic beams. The experiment was designed to trap quarks in a Hg target or liquid Ar tank. No free quark candidate was found. Limits from 10 −7 t

We have carried out an experiment to search for neutrons released from a thin film of Pd-10% Ir. A film of thickness ≈2000 A was prepared by sputtering. The film was then cooled to 77 K and was charged with deuterons by low-energy ion implantation.
