THE rates of racemization of the complexes MI3Cr(oxalate)3 have been found to depend on the nature of the alkali metal ion MI as shown in Table 1.

The rate of racemisation of the trisoxalatochromium(III) anion shows a very high order of dependence on acid concentration. We present data for catalysis of the reaction by HClO4, HCl, and H2SO4. An A-1 mechanism for the racemisation is proposed.
