We have determined if a defect at entry of the human pathogen herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) into cultured porcine cells extends to HSV-2 and if the poor susceptibility of porcine cells for these viruses is indicative of in vivo species tropism.

Poly(lactide-co-glycolide) microspheres containing different loads of OVA (0.05, 0.1, 0.5 and 1.0% w/w) were manufactured by a w/o/w emulsion/solvent evaporation method. Low load efficiencies of less than 20% were observed. Normal size distributions

Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is a herpesvirus of pigs. Homologous recombination with plasmids offers a method to engineer precise changes in the PRV genome to produce advantageous live vaccines. Safety can be ensured by using a non-reverting deletion to

The inter-epidemic phase of feline calicivirus was studied in a number of cats. During this period animals asymptomatically shed infective virus which was monitored at a number of sites and during different environmental conditions. Analysis of the a

Summary Rinderpest virus (RV) grew readily in cultures of purified bovine peripheral blood lymphocytes and udder macrophages. The growth of three strains of RV was compared and there appeared to be a relationship between increasing virulence and incr

The interaction of infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus and susceptible host cells was examined to determine whether an infected cell could be destroyed by humoral immune mechanisms before or after the transmission of virus to susceptible adjacent

summaryA solid phase radioimmunoassay (RIA) has been successfully developed to measure both African swine fever virus (ASFV) antigen and antibody. Studies show that the assay is reproducible and will detect limiting antigen concentrations equivalent

Pigs vaccinated with glutaraldehyde-fixed alveolar macrophages (AM) infected with African swine fever virus (ASFV) had an accelerated serological response after subsequent challenge and a slight reduction in levels of viraemia. Vaccination of pigs wi
