Mycobacterium leprae (M. leprae) infection causes nerve damage and the condition worsens often during and long after treatment. Clearance of bacterial antigens including lipoarabinomannan (LAM) during and after treatment in leprosy patients is slow.

A 25-year-old male presented with unilateral panuveitis with multiple voluminous elevated retinal lesions along with subretinal fluid and exudation. An extensive laboratory work-up was done, and a clinical suspicion of viral retinitis was considered.
