Monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) present high second-order optical nonlinearity, which is extremely desirable for, e.g., frequency conversion in nonlinear photonic devices. On the other hand, the atomic thickness of 2D materials nat

The stacking of few layers of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) and their heterostructures allows us to create new structures, observe new physical phenomena, and envision new applications. Moreover, the twist angle in few-layer TMDs can signif

We report on second harmonic generation from MoS2/WS2 as-grown heterostructures. The two crystal structures naturally align with 0° and ^60. twist angles. While the former enhances, the latter decreases the nonlinearity from individual layers.

Monolayers of MoS 2 and WS 2 , as well as their vertical heterostructures, were synthesized via chemical vapor deposition. The samples were then characterized via microRaman and micro-photoluminescence spectroscopies, and by second harmonic generatio

Zirconium telluride, a transition metal dichalcogenide, was synthesized by a redox exfoliated method to obtain a 2D monolayer semi-metal. After being characterized for compositional and optical analysis, its third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) proper

We introduce a graphene oxide/gold nanorod nanocomposite as a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrate that suppresses the usual temporal intensity fluctuations, commonly referred to as blinking. The temporal stability of the SERS spectra

Films of graphene oxide (GO) were produced on the inner walls of the glass microcapillaries of photonic crystal fibers via insertion of a GO water suspension followed by quick drying with a hot finger (no previous surface functionalization required).
