Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy can be augmented by concurrent spectroscopic measurements of molecules and molecular ions resulting from recombination of laser-ablated plasmas with the ablated sample and surrounding environment. Molecular emissi

When compared to many other sensitive methods for material detection, such as inductively coupled mass spectroscopy and thermal ionization mass spectroscopy, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) typically exhibits a lower signal-to-noise ratio
To more fully take advantage of a low-cost, small footprint hybrid interferometric/dispersive spectrometer, a mathematical reconstruction technique was developed to accurately capture the high-resolution and relative peak intensities from complex spe

We report the first implementation of a laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy system driven by 2-μm femtosecond pulses. Ab initio modeling is used to explain the present femtosecond results and the previously reported nanosecond results.

Femtosecond and nanosecond laser ablation were used to perform isotopic measurements of boron using molecular emission spectra acquired by a non-gated detector. The accuracy of isotopic reconstruction is relatively insensitive to laser pulse duration

Experimental evidence for a significant effect of pulse chirp in laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy of uranium is reported. A 27% improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio is demonstrated by the use of linear chirp.
