Chemical treatments to enhance photoluminescence (PL) in MoS2 have been explored extensively by experimental means in recent years. However, satisfactory theoretical explanations of the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. In this work, the surface

Defect centers in hexagonal boron nitride represent room-temperature single-photon sources in a layered van der Waals material. These light emitters appear with a wide range of transition energies ranging over the entire visible spectrum, which rende

Single-photon sources are important building blocks for quantum technology. Recently, bright and stable single-photon emitters have been reported in the atomically thin semiconductor WSe 2 . However, the localized light sources appear at random posit

Single-photon emitters in monolayer WSe2 are created at the nanoscale gap between two single-crystalline gold nanorods. The atomically thin semiconductor conforms to the metal nanostructure and is bent at the position of the gap. The induced strain l

Monolayers of semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides hold the promise for a new paradigm in electronics by exploiting the valley degree of freedom in addition to charge and spin. For MoS2, WS2, and WSe2, valley polarization can be convenient

A remarkable property of atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) is the possibility to selectively address single valleys by circularly polarized light. In the context of technological applications, it is very important to understand

We reveal the ultrafast intervalley dynamics in monolayer WS 2 with a spectrally-resolved ultrafast pump-probe experiment and a microscopic theory. We find strong intervalley Coulomb coupling in the atomically thin semiconductor.

We mechanically exfoliate mono- and few-layers of the transition metal dichalcogenides molybdenum disulfide, molybdenum diselenide, and tungsten diselenide. The exact number of layers is unambiguously determined by atomic force microscopy and high-re
