A first principles 6D kinetic model is developed to study the earliest times of unassisted plasma breakdown in an International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER)-scale tokamak. This is then used for a comparative study of the predicted ionisa

In this paper the energy gain of attosecond electron bunches emitted during the interaction of intense, few-cycle linearly polarized lasers with nanoscale spherical clusters is determined. In this case electron bunches are emitted from the rear side

Townsend discharge theory is commonly used to describe and approximate the ionisation fraction growth rate in the very early phase of plasma initiation in tokamak devices via ohmic breakdown. The prediction of the ionisation fraction growth rate is d

We present the main parameters of the 1.2 TW Ti:Sapphire laser amplifier system operating at 1 kHz. The high quality beam output allows generation of linearly- and circularly polarized photons in the extreme ultraviolet range.

We have modeled bi-color circularly polarized harmonic generation in under-dense plasmas using a combination of PIC simulation and a nonlinear fluid model. Generalized selection rules and helicities, together with harmonic efficiencies are predicted

Significance Even though bright X-rays below mega-electron volt photon energy can be obtained from X-ray free electron lasers and synchrotron radiation facilities, it remains a great challenge to generate collimated bright gamma-ray beams over 10 meg

Attosecond electron bunches produced at the surface of nanometer-scale droplets illuminated by a two-cycle laser pulse are investigated for the purpose of determining their optimal emission characteristics. Significant departures from Mie theory are
