The Marmara section of the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) runs under water and is located less than 20 km from the 15-million-person population center of Istanbul in its eastern portion. Based on historical seismicity data, recurrence times foreca

Fault Zone Guided Waves (FZGWs) have been observed for the first time within New Zealand's transpressional continental plate boundary, the Alpine Fault, which is late in its typical seismic cycle. Ongoing study of these phases provides the opportunit

A simple, fast, moment-tensor inversion method using bandpass-filtered P-amplitudes was used to study the moment-tensor statistics of Long Valley caldera microearthquakes. The events were recorded in the summer of 1997, during a swarm in the caldera.

North Atlantic sediments dating from the last ice age contain layers of rock fragments from northeastern Canada (so-called Heinrich layers)1. Like modern iceberg-borne sediments from Greenland, these layers have been attributed to ice-rafting episode

We present a simultaneous interpretation of coincident magnetotelluric (MT) and seismic refraction lines near the Parkfield, CA, San Andreas Fault Observatory at Depth site. The MT data set was acquired with Phoenix 4-channel systems with average sta

Summary. Using a single scattering approximation, we derive equations for the scattering attenuation coefficients of P- and S-body waves. We discuss our results in the light of some recent energy renormalization approaches to seismic wave scattering.

Summary A corrected, first-order solution for modelling acoustic wave scattering in layered halfspaces containing random inhomogeneities is derived. Energy lost to higher order scattering and intrinsic attenuation is included in the correction, which
